Over the long holiday weekend, Mags and I, and many members of our extended family, saw Toy Story 3. It is not often that the 3rd movie in a series gets better than the first two, but somehow Disney•Pixar has pulled it off again. What I loved is that each of us could enjoy the movie on so many different levels. At one point I looked over at my daughter and her two cousins and saw how captivated and engaged they were while viewing the film. We all laughed out loud and shed some tears a few times too. After the movie, Maggie and I compared notes on the parts that made us cry. I absolutely lost it when Andy actually leaves to go off to college, and she cried when some of the other toys were being mean to Mr. Potato Head.
Funny, funny Ken video.
Ok, now I am going to get sappy. There were many parts during the holiday weekend that reminded me that time is so precious and how quickly things can change—which is probably why a kid's movie affected me so much. My sister and her family came to stay with us, and they brought along their niece who was visiting from Chicago. I realized I hadn't seen her since she was my daughter's age, and now here she was a young woman!
Miss Mags and her cousin at age 2, and the baby boys enjoying the same stroller.
My 10-month-old twin nephews were using the same double stroller that I used for my daughter and her cousin. Time is precious. Time is constantly moving. Time is golden when you learn to love and appreciate the time you have with loved ones.
I completely lost it in the theater when andy's mother saw his empty room and realized that her was moving on to college and that his childhood years were in the past. Omg, I am so not ready for that day with miss mags. I will treasure her tween years when she is still young enough to want to cuddle and play games with me, but old enough to start to develop her own sense of independence and self confidence. This is why we started ChicaCircle. The tween years are so precious, overwhelming, scary, delightful, trying, fun and always changing.
